Cast from the Storm wins ADG award for Best Direction in a Documentary Stand Alone by David Mason

Cast from the Storm wins Best Direction in a Documentary Stand Alone at the Australian DIrector's Guild Awards 2016.

This is David's first time directing a documentary. The project has taken three years to complete.

In this documentary category, David was up against four experienced and talented women. After winning, he noted that at the heart of our story is the work of some other talented women - Ruth, Catherine, along with her supportive family, and Tehmineh, who guided the young group featured in the doco.

Thank you to Screen Australia and Screen NSW for supporting emerging talent and enabling this story to reach audiences. Thank you to the ADG - we're thrilled that you and your judges chose to recognise this story.

We'd like to pay tribute to Treehouse Theatre, sincerely thank all of our crew, and dedicate this award to our cast who bravely give a voice to millions of young refugees around the world.

Cast from the Storm discussed at UNAOC 7th Global Forum by David Mason

David headed to Baku, Azerbaijan for the UNAOC's 7th Global Forum in April to join a panel: Reporting in Times of Crisis - Telling Migrant Tales through Creative Storytelling.

Over four thousand people took part in the event, including international heads of state and government, political officials, civil society representatives and religious leaders.

The overarching theme of the forum was Living Together in Inclusive Societies - a Challenge and a Goal. It was a great opportunity to talk about resettlement, and for the voices of the documentary to be heard - voices that represent millions.

You can find more on the forum and David's trip in the article below.
